4th Street South
Rehabilitation Project
Begins May 30, 2016
Road Closures and Parking Restrictions in Effect
Starting May 30, 2016,
4th Street South between
3rd Avenue South and 6th
Avenue South, and the
intersection of 4th Street
South and 6th Avenue
South will be closed for
rehabilitation work.
The
rehabilitation
project is expected to
last approximately four
weeks, barring unforeseen
circumstance and inclement
weather.
Residents
are
also
reminded that parking in
the back lane is restricted.
Back lanes must remain
unobstructed as the lanes
will serve as the primary
access
for
residents,
maintenance
vehicles,
and emergency vehicles.
Garbage collection in the
construction area will be
temporarily moved to the
nearest adjacent avenues
(3rd Ave South and 6th
Ave South).
Residents who live in homes
that front the construction
area are asked to park on
their properties using back
lane access where possible.
Where there is no parking
available through back lane
access, residents should
park further east and west
of the construction area on
4th Street South, and on
3rd Avenue South and 6th
Avenue South.
Property owners are also
asked to be mindful of
the amount of water used
to water lawns and wash
vehicles as water runoff
from properties to the
construction site could
result in construction
delays.
SGI is launching a new,
emotionally-charged
multi-media advertising
campaign
to
raise
awareness about impaired
driving.
In 2014 (the most recent
year for which final
statistics are available),
there were more than
1,100 collisions related
to alcohol or drug use in
Saskatchewan, resulting in
61 deaths and 541 injuries.
It is important to remember
that, like alcohol, drug use,
including illegal drugs
and some prescription
and
over-the-counter
medication, can also
impair driving ability.
Finally, to ensure public
and worker safety, all
residents are reminded to
stay
clear
of
the
construction site, and to
obey all road barricades
and posted signage around
the construction site.
The majority of the work
will take place Monday to
Saturday between the hours
of 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.,
however the contractor for
this project, Prairie Paving
Inc., may extend working
hours to 10:00 p.m., which
is in line with the City of
Martensville Noise Bylaw.

Show and Shine Held for Fort Mac
Fire Victims
Tyler Janzen,
Martensville Messenger
On
Saturday,
May
21st, Canadian Tire in
Martensville hosted a
car show to raise money
in
support
of
Fort
MacMurray. The idea
was spearheaded by Carli
Kraft, Kendra Spilchuk,
and Eric Rainville of
Martensville and they did
an absolutely amazing
job. There was a barbeque
and refreshments table, a
cash donation table, and a
huge semi-trailer brought
by Kevin Affleck that was
used to load up new or used
clothing donations. They
also had a very interesting
contest that I had never
seen done before. Amigos
Auto wrecking in Clavet
graciously donated a 90’s
Ford Taurus that was
brought out at 2pm and had
the oil and coolant drained.
People would then pay $5 to
choose a time in which the
car would sputter to a halt.
There was a large crowd
that gathered as they placed
a brick in the gas pedal. It
SGI Launching New Impaired Driving
Prevention Campaign
The campaign shows
the void, literally, that
is left behind when a
friend or loved one is
killed by an impaired
driver. The absence of
that person leaves a hole
in the lives of those left
behind,
demonstrating
the campaign slogan
that “impaired driving
impacts lives, families,
everything.”
“Too
many
people
are being killed in
our province because
someone chose to drive
while impaired,” Minister
responsible for SGI Don
McMorris said. “SGI’s
new ad calls on all drivers
to remember that at any
time, any one of us could
lose someone we care
about due to impaired
driving. We owe it to
ourselves, our loved ones
and all other road users
to never drive if we’re
impaired by alcohol or
drugs.”
The
province-wide
campaign
includes
television, radio, theatre
and online advertisements.
It runs from May 15 to
June 13. View the ad
