Rush Take Overtime Win Janine Hayward , Martensville Messenger

The Saskatoon Rush know how to entertain their sell out crowds as they took the OT win over their rivals the Calgary Roughnecks Saturday night . The Rush forced a turnover in the Calgary zone as Jeff Cornwall found Adam Jones in front of the net who knocked in the winner . This makes six consecutive wins for the Rush who remain on top of the division with a 6-2 record . The Roughnecks are having a rough go as they came out with two wins to start the season but are on a 4-game skid .
Calgary were desperate for a win and had the lead for most of the game . They were up 3-2 in the second quarter as they added to their lead on a power play . Saskatoon ’ s Jeff Cornwall lessened the gap on a breakaway making it 4-3 . The Roughnecks answered back with two more quick goals . Calgary went into the half with a 7-6 lead over the Rush .
The Roughnecks came out strong in the third with two more quick goals and a 9-6 lead . Ben McIntosh capped off his hat trick to get the Rush ’ s seventh goal . They would tie things up in the fourth and Robert Church capitalized on a pass from Matthews to give the Rush their first lead10-9 . Calgary tied things at 10 but both teams were a man short when Robert Church scored a hat trick of his own to take the one point lead . With only 1:51 seconds left in regulation time , Roughneck forward Berg scored to send the game into overtime . The Rush didn ’ t need much time to capture the win in the overtime period as Adam Jones scored only 1:16 into the extra period .
The Rush are back on the road next week when they travel to Vancouver to face the Stealth .
