Warman Fire Rescue SLIP-n-SLIDE

The Warman Fire Rescue Department created a SLIP-n-SLIDE from 12pm-2pm at Diamond Hill Park July 20th . All ages were welcome to come and take park in the summertime fun , and the ever-growing line up at the top of the hill proved just how excited local residents were to have a chance to cool off from the scorching

Lions Club International Youth Camp

Marcy Cross , Martensville Messenger
Lions Club ’ s around the world have a goal : to create global citizens across cultures and around the world . One of the ways they do this is to support the Youth Camp and Exchange Program ( YCE ). YCE brings the ideal of global citizenship to life . Each year this program gives thousands of young people the opportunity to experience life in other cultures and gain new understanding of the world through travel abroad . Participants are encouraged to use this travel opportunity to represent their home countries and share their own culture while learning about and embracing a new one , forging the way to becoming young ambassadors for peace and international understanding . The Martensville Lions Club took the opportunity to add to the current camps activities . The Club sponsored a stop at the Martensville Pool where the youth were invited to swim , relax , and enjoy a meal provided by the club .
Annika , who is 19 and from Germany , wasn ’ t able to enjoy the pool but was happy to sit and enjoy the sun . “ We started the trip off by staying with a host family for a week and then went to this camp for a week . We are doing a lot of activities . It ’ s pretty and different here . The houses are a lot different . Everyone is nice and open minded . You care about people . I like that a lot and I ’ ll come back again one day . I love doing something for other people . We are at the camp with all these people from all these different cultures . We ’ ve learned words from lots of different languages . It ’ s made me think what home really means to me . What family means to me . What really makes me happy ,” Annika stated . “ The Lions Club has been so nice and opened minded . At first I was nervous and didn ’ t know what to say but everyone is here with the same goals so it ’ s ok ,” Annika added .
A Lions Youth Exchange , or “ host family stay ,” can be arranged in hundreds of countries where there are Lions clubs and typically lasts between four to six weeks . Lions Youth Camps are one or two weeks long and usually include a host family stay before and / or after the camp . Activities for both exchanges and camps can include visits to places of cultural or natural interest , sporting events , country presentations by participants , guided discussion , and even engagement in local service projects alongside Lions club members .
To explore current camps and exchange opportunities , visit the online Youth Camp and Exchange Directory . For information on becoming a host family , please review the information on the Host Family webpage . For information on becoming a youth participant , please review the information on the YCE Participant webpage . All of the above information can be found at www . lionsclubs . org .
