riders Post First Win
Rider fans were desperately looking for a win from the green and white
as they entered Fridays game with an 0 and 3 record. It wasn't looking
promising going into the game with veteran quarterback Darian Durant
on the injured list once again as they faced the undefeated Ottawa
RedBlacks. The Riders looked to quarterback Mitchell Gale to get things
going, and that he did marching the team down the field to get to field
goal range. This was Gale’s first CFL start. Crapigna hit the uprights to
post the first three points of the game giving the Riders the early lead.
Things looked dismal for Ottawa when RedBlack’s quarterback, Trevor
Harris left the game and was replaced by Brock Jensen. The teams
exchanged singles and field goals but the Rider’s defence pulled through
with a blocked punt as Trevaughn Campbell recovered the ball and ran
the 14 yards for the major giving the Riders the 17-9 lead. Brock Jensen
didn't miss a beat for Ottawa and found Sinopoli for some big gains.
They added a touchdown and a field goal and the RedBlacks went into
the half with a 20-17 lead.

The Riders didn't have much offence in the third but the defence held
Ottawa to a couple of field goals by ex-Roughrider Chris Milo. Gale
finally hit Roosevelt in the third for an 89 yard touchdown closing the
gap 26-24 Ottawa. Crapigna hit for three giving the Riders the 27-26
lead in the fourth. Milo gave Ottawa back the lead finding the uprights
with only 2:11 left to play. The Riders didn’t roll over when Crapigna
gave the lead back to the Riders crushing a 53 yard field goal making
it 30-29 with only a minute left to play. The defence stepped up once
again with sacks from AC Leonard and Justin Capicciotti that sealed the
first win of the season for the Riders. Mitchell Gale looked good at the
helm completing 21/36 for 354 yards and a touchdown. Rider receiver
Naaman Roosevelt was named second player of the week for the CFL
after completing 8 of 10 passes for 182 yards. It was a much needed win
as the Riders go into Montreal on Friday looking for their second win.
Game time is 5:00.
