Kinsmen Club Prepares for Second Annual Chicken & Chuckles Event Shanine Sealey , Martensville Messenger

The Martensville & District Kinsmen Club are busy preparing for their second annual ‘ Chicken & Chuckles ’ event , which will be taking place February 25th at the North Ridge Centennial Community Centre in Martensville . Last year , ‘ Chicken & Chuckles ’ proved to be a popular idea , with just under 300 people attending the inaugural event . “ Last year was the first annual for the event and the support from Martensville and the surrounding communities was incredible . The event went over as well as we had hoped , if not better , and everyone had a great time ,” Martensville & District Kinsmen Club President , Scott McIntyre , commented .
For their first year , the Kinsmen brought in two comedians and provided three varieties of wings for those in attendance . Wings were $ 10 / dozen , and a wide variety of drinks were available for purchase . For an extra added treat , a popcorn machine was on hand . Wings and alcohol were provided by the Adobe Inn in Martensville , as the local Kinsmen Club prefers to support local businesses whenever possible . In total , the group was able to raise $ 2000 through the event , all of which was donated to TeleMiracle , which will be the case once again this year . “ We are looking forward to doing the event again this year , and hopefully we can see even more people come out ,” McIntyre , who has been a member of the Martensville & District Kinsmen Club for the past seven years , added . TeleMiracle , which is the biggest fundraiser within the country , takes place March 4th and 5th at TCU Place in Saskatoon .
The idea for the event initially came about through a similar fundraiser that McIntyre had worked on while he was a member of the Langham Kin Club that turned out to be quite successful . “ We were looking to do something more in Martensville and with the club that we have now , we want to increase our visibility within our district . We have a focus of putting a face value of Kinsmen and Kinettes back into communities . It isn ’ t about just supporting financially , but supporting the community as well by putting on events , being part of events , whatever it may be ,” McIntyre explained . Kinsmen Club member Roger Ireland added that the group is planning on hosting two major events throughout each year , one in February , and one closer to summer . “ The good thing about the winter one is that it takes place shortly before TeleMiracle , so it is a good time to be hosting a fundraiser .” Ireland has been a member of the local Kinsmen Club for the past ten years .
Although the group does various fundraising efforts throughout the year , their ‘ Chicken & Chuckles ’ event will continue to be the main fundraiser for TeleMiracle . Tickets for the event are $ 25 , which includes your first order of 12 wings . This year , the event will feature three comedians , with Darryl Koszman of Saskatoon as the host of the evening ,
