Venture Heights Elementary Top Fundraising School in Canada

Venture Heights Elementary school raised more than double their fundraising goal of $ 10,000 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation , making them the top fundraising school in all of Canada ! At a whopping final count of over $ 27,000 , the Jump for Heart fundraising event at VHS was certainly one for the books . The whole school got involved , some even taking the project from door to door outside of school hours . “ We are currently placed as the top fundraising school in Canada . Our school started fundraising on January 18th with a kick off assembly provided by the Heart and Stroke Foundation . Students then fundraised online and door to door ,” informed Brent Campbell , a grade six teacher at VHS .
What is Jump for Heart ? Jump for Heart is an annual fundraising event put on by the Heart and Stroke Foundation . 2017 marked the 35th anniversary for this event , with over 4,000 schools across Canada participating . Among those schools , Venture Heights elementary school went above and beyond expectations and provided huge numbers in proceeds for Heart and Stroke . The fundraising came to a close on February 14th , the day of which the entire student body took their turns skipping in the gymnasium at different stations . “ Staff members have fond memories of doing this fundraiser when they were kids and we had a few staff members who have lost members of their families due to heart and / or stroke conditions-making this charity near and dear to them ,” said Campbell . Jump Rope for Heart is an event that encourages children to keep active , reinforces healthy
habits ( eating and activity ), teaches the importance of social responsibility and helping others in the community while empowering kids to make a difference by supporting a cause , and ultimately boosts school spirit . The school did so well in working together for this organization that the school community was rewarded with an extra recess as well as a game of egg roulette . Egg roulette consists of a bundle of eggs , some cooked and some raw . Teachers will thusly take it in turns to smash the eggs over their heads ; this will be a real treat for the students !
Jump Rope for Heart is such a great way to give back . By fundraising for Jump Rope for Heart , participants are collecting donations that fund critical lifesaving research , preventing heart disease and stroke , and supporting survivors and their families . Not only will the school receive rewards for the epic amount of funds raised , but individuals who went above and beyond for the fundraiser will also be rewarded . For every child that raised $ 25 , a soccer ball will be rewarded , $ 75 will get them a hippity hop ball , $ 250 a multi-sports net , at $ 500 they will receive an action camera , and if individuals raise more than $ 1000 , they will receive an action camera and a bike . “ We have about four students from our school who will be receiving the camera and the bike ,” said Brent Campbell .
I am so proud to be a part of a community that had a school full of kids playing and jumping for critical heart and stroke research and funding . Well done VHS !
