The World Juniors are underway in Montreal and Toronto and Canada is off to a hot start in the Pre-Tournament scoring 11 seconds into the first game against Finland . Then only a minute later they scored their second goal . Team Canada went on to shut out the defending gold medalists 5-0 on Monday . Canada has two more exhibition games as they take on the Czech Republic on Wednesday and Switzerland on Friday . The real tournament begins on Boxing Day as it always does , this time against the Russians . Canada is coming off one of their worst showings in the tournament when they finished in 6th place after a quarter-final loss to the Finns .
The longest win streak in the NHL came to an end on Saturday when the Philadelphia Flyers couldn ’ t get their 11th in a row and they lost to the Minnesota Wild . The longest current streak now belongs to the Columbus Blue Jackets who have won their last 9 games as of Monday . Also as of Monday the Chicago Blackhawks are the best in the league and 4 Canadian teams are currently in a playoff positon . Calgary , Edmonton , Ottawa and Montreal are sitting in playoff spots .
The Toronto Raptors are one of the hottest teams in the NBA still with just 3 losses in the past month . The Raps are second in their division with a 19-8 record behind only the Cleveland Cavaliers who have a 19-6 record . Both teams however are chasing the Golden State Warriors who have an NBA best 24-4 record .
Coming out of week 15 in the NFL the playoff picture is becoming clearer . Four teams have now sealed their spot for the postseason including the Dallas Cowboys and Oakland Raiders who clinched a spot and the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks have clinched first place in their division . With only two weeks remaining it seems as though the Wild Card Spots are fair game for many teams . It will be interesting to see how the playoff picture changes in the next couple of weeks .
