Many
area
residents
are excited about the
recent
announcement
that construction on the
overpasses planned for
Highway 11 and 12 will
soon be underway. Not
only will the creation
of the two overpasses
improve traffic coming in
and out of Warman and
Martensville, but during
the construction phases,
there will be numerous
jobs created. “In a big,
diverse country like this
one and and a vast province
like Saskatchewan we
need to be able to move
people and goods from
place to place smoothly
and quickly, efficiently
and safely. These will
be multimillion dollar
investments. The key
thing about investments
in infrastructure is the
twofold gain that is
achieved. First there is the
immediate impact in terms
of the good jobs created,
the associated economic
activity that stimulated.
By building these projects
the economic multiplier
effect is about 1.5 for
every one dollar that is
invested. Investing in
infrastructure is the single
most cost-effective way
the Government of Canada
will drive more growth
and jobs,” Ralph Goodale,
the Federal Minister of
Public
Safety,
stated
during an announcement
made Friday, July 29th
Hall.
“Secondly
the
infrastructure that we
build; streets and roads
and bridges and sidewalks,
highways and interchanges
and water and sewer
systems and all the rest;
these facilities lay the
foundation for more growth
for
social,
economic,
culture, and environmental
development
and
for
greater productivity and
prosperity,”
Goodale
continued.
Goodale
explained that greater
economic
growth
is
currently Canada’s most
vital economic challenge
and that between 1990
and 2008, the Canadian
economy
enjoyed
an
annual economic growth
rate of some 3% per year,
each year. Since 2008,
the annual average is at
approximately half of that,
and Goodale stated,
