The BigFish Finder Conditions are almost perfect for great fall fishing on the east side of the Mississippi River. The River is below six feet and forecast to continue dropping. This allows the salinity to increase in our marshes and for speckled trout to follow. Water temperatures are warm and slowly beginning to cool. Fish instinctively know there is a need to fatten up for a potentially long and lean winter. Days are beginning to noticeably shorten. Shorter days bring less feeding time, a lower angle of the sun to the horizon, and a decrease in heat. All of that means they have less daylight to feed, and moderate conditions (less intense sunlight and heat) mean they often feed for longer periods during the day. Bait is everywhere. Bait is nothing more than anything a fish eats. Find the bait, and you will likely find the fish. And this month, bait should be easy to find.
