Although this summer produced a very late bite on the outside October should
signal the beginning of the traditional fall fishing season. We have already seen the
patter begin. The shorter days and cooler weather will continue to move fish from the
outside inward. By the end of the month the trout and redfish should be in their traditional fall spots. The movement of bait should allow you to find birds feeding in open
bays with trout underneath. Take advantage of those opportunities. Speckled trout and
redfish will be following shrimp and other bait into the interior marsh and beginning a
feeding frenzy that will help them through the cold portion of the winter. The game fish
will position themselves on points and other positions of moving water in order to intercept the bait.
