looking for anything that they can eat to gain protein for the winter. For fishing these areas I have always found that if I can place my boat parallel to the bank in the bend of the bayou and throw up current allowing my bait of choice to fall back with the tide on the bottom. This technique works very well during the months of November through February but November is the month that the fish will start this pattern. Also when fishing this way you want to make sure that you are fishing with some type of super line like FINS or Power Pro. These super lines are second to none when it comes to the ability to feel the lightest of bites and to actually feel the structure on the Pick-up M&B at any of these Academy Sports + Outdoors Locations! These lines have definitely increase the amount that my customers catch because they just feel the strikes on the fall and on the bottom even when they have a bow in their lines due to the wind or current. Now for redfish many times this is the month when the larger schools of reds start to gang up and you have the ability to catch high numbers of redfish in one area. Unlike speckled trout I tend to search for redfish in the shallow waters of the duck ponds and bays of the interior marshes. As the water temperatures fall redfish are more tolerant to these temperature drops and move up to the darker colored muddy bottoms of the duck ponds and small bays of the interior marsh. As the sun rises this muddy dark bottom will heat up and cause the water temperatures to increase by 5 to 10 degrees during one day cycle. Also if there is oyster or clam shells in the pond or bay they will retain the suns heat longer so in turn the bay will stay warmer overnight allowing redfish in that area to feed more often and allow you to have a much better success rate then other anglers that do not know this bit of information. I really enjoy using 1/2oz gold spoons this time of year for the reds and Mann’s Baby one minus shallow water crankbaits. Both of these baits displace water well and offer flash and sound for the redfish to key in on for the strike. This month’s Academy Sports and Outdoors Free Seminar will be at the West Bank, Louisiana store from 6-8pm on Oct. 12th. Come to this all ages event where you can learn to be more successful on each and every trip. www.captcharlie.com
