Jewellery Club
are asking to join for 2020. (Miss Weir,
Art & Design Department)
The jewellery club had a very festive
Christmas and showed off their
creations at the Christmas Concert.
It’s only in its first year, but
has produced key rings, necklaces,
brooches and a variety of Christmas
decorations that could be sold.
“I have definitely enjoyed jewellery
club so far and I am really looking
forward to seeing what we are
doing next.” Tom Edwards, S1
The group enjoyed it so much that
they have told Miss Weir that they
would like to do another stall
(possibly at the Troon Primary
Summer
Fair).
This
time however, they would like to
streamline their designs into smaller
summery things and items that sold
well at Christmas, such as the small
pendants and key rings. Between
September
and December, the
students got to use and work with
paper, clay, mica powders dies,
resin, lots of glitter and Fantasy Film.
Looking into 2020, we are hoping
to try our hands at wax casting and
the students are keen to use the
Resin again to make their jewellery
for the Summer Fair.
Christmas Fundraising
In December students and staff took
part in our annual Christmas Jumper
Day at Marr College. Staff and
students also brought in items that
were sold during a bake sale to raise
cash. The proceeds from the event
were split between a local charity,
Ayrshire Cancer Support, and Save
the Children. This year we were also
asking staff to nominate the most
festive dressed pupil in their class
and for principal teachers to
nominate the most festive staff
member – with prizes available for
the winners. It was great to see all
the different examples of Christmas
jumpers, t-shirts and dresses!
I am so impressed with what the
students have accomplished, their
enthusiasm and talent. In such a
short period of time, they have
started to really understand a
variety of materials and are able to
make
considered
decision
regarding sales and production. We
meet on a Tuesday afterschool in
the art department. There were 18
regular students in 2019 and more
