Issue Number 05 | January 2020 Malawi Partnership – Progress Update! Exciting things are happening with our Malawi partnership in 2020. We are delighted that Barassie Primary have joined our partnership and along with both Ntenjera Primary and Secondary we have joined the British Council’s Connecting Classrooms project. As part of this we will be exploring how the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals impact our communities. Songs for Malawi Christmas Concert In December we held a fantastic ‘Songs for Malawi’ Christmas Concert with amazing performances from the different groups and soloists. We were also joined by Davie Luhanga, a musician originally from Malawi who has now settled in Edinburgh. A brilliant evening was had by all. Well done to our wonderful Music Department and all the music instructors for putting on an excellent show. We must also thank Ms McCallum, Mr Harris, the S6 Leadership team and all of the staff and pupil volunteers that helped on the night. Over £600 was raised for our Marr Malawi partnership – which was a fantastic achievement. Over the past year the staff and pupils at Marr have raised over £4,000 in order to improve facilities at our partner schools in Ntenjera. We are delighted to announce that early in 2020 work will begin on the construction of a new classroom for Ntenjera Primary. The school currently has only 13 classrooms for all 2025 pupils so this will be a welcome and much needed addition. In February the whole of Marr College will have the opportunity to raise more money to further enable our partners to provide a better education for their young people. Pupils in the BGE phase will be able to take part in our first ever Smarties Challenge and Senior phase pupils will be able to test themselves and raise money in our annual Living on One week.
