Pop in and see them on a Tuesday between noon - 6pm for advice on anything you may need and have your car seats checked for free while you're there! Russells' car seat safety tips: Do not put your rear facing restraint in the front seat of a vehicle with an air bag. Never use an expired car seat, it is illegal and places children at risk. By law children must be in an approved restraint until 7 years of age. 148cm height is the recommendation to stay in a booster seat. Ensure the harness is firm against baby and blankets are over the top of the harness, you should only be able to slide 1 finger under the harness at the shoulder 45 degrees is the optimal angle of recline for newborns and infants, this protects babies airway but is not the best for posture. Only have a baby in a car seat for 1 hour at time, then pop them out for a cuddle and fe ed. Most restraints will have a level indicator to Little Red Fox Child Care Services ensure that baby is at the correct angle. It is recommended to have children rear facing until at least 2 years of age. The safest place for children is the back seat ideally in the centre, or on passengers side. If using an older car, ensure the child restraint is able to be installed with a seat belt, and not just ISOfix only. When installed the restraint should have less than 2cm of movement at the belt path. Capsules are best suited for newborns as the harness, the size of the hip spacing and shoulder heights are designed for babies. Convertible all-in-one restraints will have larger hardware and may not fit a newborn correctly. A capsule with a base is recommended as the base stays in the vehicle and the capsule simply clicks in and out for ease and convenience. The base also maintains a consistent angle. If using a baseless capsule, check the angle every time, and ensure the seat belt is routed correctly and tightly. We’ve been hiring for over 20 years, always using well-known quality brands.
