Exceptional Eyecare hews Eyewear Eyecare. After moving back to his hometown of Blenheim, with his family in tow, ringing his vision of optimal eye health and gorgeous frame design to the people of Marlborough. is affected, just how important it is to maintain good eye health. I can sense how passionate Francis is about eye health when he explains how important it is to keep up with eye checks, so much so, I started to think about the letter on my bench reminding me to book my appointment months ago and I suddenly feel a little guilty. Francis explains that many eye conditions have no symptoms in the early stages but if you pick these up early in a comprehensive eye exam it can lead to less vision problems in the future. My eye check is now ticked off my 'To Do' list and it was worth every penny for the thorough and in-depth examination. Turns out my prescription needs updating and the eye irritation I have been getting from my contacts can be treated. If only I had booked in earlier, it could have saved me two years of squint and frown lines giving me that fine wine vintage look, …said with a regretful smile. The team is also excited to welcome Sue Campbell who is experienced in optical dispensing and eyecare, and will ensure the right frames are chosen for you. Sue gets a thrill when helping clients decide on the perfect pair of eyewear; she loves to explore the stunning design section to find the perfect pair for each individual. “To see a happy face walk out with a gorgeous pair of glasses that reflects their personality and complements their look, a great sense of ‘mission accomplished’ humbles me,” says Sue. It’s an understatement to say that she is passionate. “Sue is a real asset to the team,” Francis says, smiling. Watch out for some exciting changes at Matthews in the near future. Fashion styling “When it comes to choosing a frame, we think of it as ‘jewellery for the face’,” explains Sue. “With jewellery, you need to take your time and fall in love with the piece; it's the same with frames. They say the eyes are the windows to the soul, then your glasses need to allow your eyes to sparkle. They are part of you and so the decision needs to be right.” With care and respect, the team will ensure you feel confident your eye health is in safe hands and your frame choice is perfect for you. Bringing Europe to Blenheim “We look at glasses in a different light,” says Francis. “It’s not just about following the trends, it’s also about following quality”. Matthews has made a point of building a collection of exclusive designer wear to offer a fashion destination for those looking for something a little more unique. Looking around the showroom, it is obvious that the team have a real sense of style as the hand- picked frames are stunning and very high quality. Don’t let this put you off though; there are gorgeous pairs that suit every level of budget and guarantee the highest quality at the same time. You and I might just see a funky frame, but there is much more to it than that. Selecting the right pair of frames takes skill and experience. • The frame needs to complement the face. • Ensure the frame fits well on the bridge of the nose. That way, the rest of the frame will position well on the face. • The frame shape needs to complement the individual’s eyebrow shape. • A good fit behind the ears is always important. • Colour and shades need to be considered, to complement personality and skin tones. • Ensuring the frame is in proportion to the face shape. Do we need to lengthen or shorten, thin or widen the face shape? These are all very important to consider, but luckily the team at Matthews are all qualified and experienced to help choose the perfect frame for you. Giving back to the community Last year Matthews started an initiative to help children who have undetected eye problems. Their aim was to raise awareness within schools by offering complimentary eye exams for at risk children and they plan to relaunch the initiative again this year. Often, some of the behaviour issues in class are a result of the child struggling visually and not understanding the negative effects this can have on learning. Teachers can be empowered to be proactive and offer free eye exams to help pinpoint the problems for their students.
