The genius and the demons—an all too familiar pairing
that has marked the lives and careers of artists for
centuries. Alexander McQueen was one of them, a British
couture giant who, at the height of his career, took his
own life back in 2010. He was 40 years old. His journey
and ascent through the fashion world, his creativity, and
personal struggles form the subject of a biopic simply
named, McQueen. Pacific Place (Seattle, USA) and Seattle
Magazine will be presenting it at the center’s next Fashion
Meets Film event on September 8.
The special 10am showing at AMC Pacific Place is sure
to please fashion lovers who will have an opportunity
to immerse themselves in the designer’s world through
interviews with his family and friends, personal archives,
clips from his catwalk shows, impactful visuals, and sound
bites. However, the hosts are hoping that guests will also
pay close attention to the man behind the art, someone
who, like so many others, was suffering at times in silence.
The parallel aims of the event are to entertain and raise
awareness of the devastating effects of depression.
Tickets cost US$20 each and all proceeds will benefit
Forefront Suicide Prevention, a Center of Excellence based
at the University of Washington and focused on reducing
suicide by empowering individuals and communities to
take sustainable actions. In addition to the theater entry
and chance to support the organization, guests will be
treated to a whole fashion and lifestyle experience with
breakfast bites and mimosas, a photo booth (for those
social media posts), swag, style surprises, and seats to
Pacific Place’s fall preview trend show.
