Best known for its collection of shoes, Steve Madden is a
well-defined and highly recognized brand. Recently making
the transition to the luxury market, the brand captures a perfect
blend of classic and cool with each and every step. With catchy
taglines and punches of color, its website promotes shoes first,
accessories second. Not afraid to make the tabs, “Shop Sale” and
“Shop Clearance” front and center, its website draws all sorts of
shoppers with a range of price tags.

and under the title “Site Items,” browsers will find the “Shoe
Glossary” tab. Click on it and up comes a page with a full list of
terms deserving of a definition. Covering almost each letter of
the alphabet, all of them are brand-related. Spanning basic words
to never-before heard “shoe-shop” language, examples include:
booties, distressed leather, eyelet, flats, gladiator, jellies, pumps,
shaft height, and tassel. A combination of shoe types, aesthetic
traits, and creative process steps, the list goes on. While the site
is set to “ALL” by default, browsers can view sub-sections by
clicking on a header at the top of the page. Featuring top athletic brands like Nike, Adidas, and Reebok,
Sport Chek is a go-to shopping spot for exercise apparel and
accessories. Tucked away at the bottom of the company’s website,
is a list of “Helpful Links.” Quarter way down, visitors will see the
tab “Chek Advice.” Click on the link and the “Your Better Starts
Here” tagline appears, followed by a scrolling menu featuring
sport-specific articles. Sub-sections include running, fitness and
training, cycling, soccer, baseball, and skiing.
For those looking for more of a mix, the bottom half of the
page consists of a similar scrolling menu made up of a blend of
articles relating to the sports listed above.
Perfect for both sport-specific competitive players and those
who dabble in seasonal activities, most recent posts include a
guide to soccer cleats, a look at gym bag essentials, and a piece
on running myths.
