Her eyelids fluttered open. “Please don‟t hurt me,” she
croaked.
Jerking away, he stared in disbelief.
So help me, she looks like a baby bird fallen from its nest.
Frail and helpless, filth streaked her cheeks, her clothes, the
matted clumps of her hair. She stank as though she hadn‟t bathed
for days. But her eyes were as clear and blue as a summer sky.
