APRIL, 2018 CIVIL HEARTS By: Claire Gem The Plot: A widow with no family, Manhattan web designer Liv Larson yearns for big change. She throws a dart at the map and heads for the rural South, falling in love as soon as she arrives— with the Belle Bride, an abandoned antebellum mansion. Antiques dealer Heath Barrow loves his country life in Camellia. But he‟s lonely, and his condition—epilepsy— makes life uncertain. Sparks fly be- tween Heath and Liv. But his first seizure sends Liv into a tailspin. It mimics those her husband suffered . . . To make matters worse, Liv discovers she‟s not living alone. Her challenge? Dealing with a Confederate soldier, one who clearly resents his Yankee roommate—even though he‟s been dead for over a hundred and fifty years. An Excerpt “What do you do for work?” Heath asked. “I‟m a web designer. I also do some side work for a few pub- lishers, creating book trailers and covers. I‟m the queen of Serif. The princess of Gimp,” Liv said with a grin. “That sounds pretty exotic,” he said, not having a clue as to what she was talking about. She pulled a paper towel off the roll she‟d brought out and wiped her fingers. “They‟re software programs, like Photoshop. They‟re the platforms I learned on. These biscuits are amazing, by the way.” Carefully, she peeled back the corner of a packet of honey and drizzled it on the fluffy white insides of her split biscuit. The tip of her tongue peeked out from the corner of her mouth as she concentrated on the task. Good Lord. She even made biscuits and honey look sexy. Heath cleared his throat. Reviews Welcome.
