TENDING TROUBLES
By: Linda Carroll-Bradd
The Plot:
Traveling west to become a mail-
order bride is the most adventurous act
Bostonian Imogene Franklin ever did.
Unfortunately, the groom chose an-
other, so now Imogene must make her
way on her own. Dreading the idea of
returning home to continue raising her
siblings, she is reduced to waiting tables
in the Dorado café.
Guilt hangs heavy over Reggie
Othmann—ever since he brought home
a childhood illness that claimed both his
parents‟ lives. The ink is barely dry on Reggie‟s degree when he
arrives home in Dorado to establish a medical practice. All he‟s
wanted since he was ten years old is to help people, but now
he‟s unsure of his future. When illness descends on the town,
Reggie and Imogene tend the townspeople. But is their emo-

it is lit from above by the lanterns.”
“Are you quite in the habit of bossing around your custom-
ers?” He gritted his teeth.
Her eyes widened and she glanced back over her shoulder
with a gasp. “I apologize.” She set down the plate laden with his
supper and slid the napkin and utensils next to it. “Please lower
your voice. I can‟t afford to have Millie hear I disrupted you.”

Biography:
As a young girl, Linda was often found lying on her bed reading about fascinating characters having exciting
adventures in places far away and in other time periods. In later years, she read and then started writing ro-
mances and achieved her first publication—a confession story. Married with four adult children and two grand-
daughters, Linda now writes heartwarming contemporary and historical stories with a touch of humor and a bit
of sass from her home in the southern California mountains.
