Insist on participation: Let
your students participate in the
class discussions. Some have rich
experiences to share and others can
learn from that.
Get their attention: Find innovative
ways in which to capture their
attention, through use of different
teaching methods but also through
use of music, song and dance. Who
said class is only about one way
lecturing!
One topic at a time: Break down the
difficult concepts and frameworks
into bite size manageable sections,
allowing students to absorb the
subject matter slowly.
Engage and inspire: Talk to the
students, and find out more about
them. Understand their interests,
their strengths and their motivations.
Tailor your subject matter to fit
within their expectations. Energize
the learners.
Gone are the days of standing in a

is a very laisser-faire attitude towards the
class room sessions, often times cutting class
with the flimsiest of excuses, coming late
to class and not even sitting for continuous
assessment tests. This is not my observation
alone but also the observation of several other
lecturers and tutors.”

Today’s teachers will be the role
models for the teachers of the future.
And the teaching profession will
never quite become obsolete as long
as newer methods and techniques are
applied.
Students of today, teachers of the
future, some words of wisdom from
Mahatma Gandhi: “Live as if you
were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you
were to live forever.”
