Insist on participation: Let your students participate in the class discussions. Some have rich experiences to share and others can learn from that. Get their attention: Find innovative ways in which to capture their attention, through use of different teaching methods but also through use of music, song and dance. Who said class is only about one way lecturing! One topic at a time: Break down the difficult concepts and frameworks into bite size manageable sections, allowing students to absorb the subject matter slowly. Engage and inspire: Talk to the students, and find out more about them. Understand their interests, their strengths and their motivations. Tailor your subject matter to fit within their expectations.
