HOUSE REPORTS Snow House Housemaster: Mrs Cora Tedder Assistant Housemaster: Mr D van der Merwe Mentors: Mrs G Landsberg, Mrs M Troveri, Ms G Quin, Mr W David, Miss C Townsend House captain: J Pillay House leaders: J Oberholzer, D Marshall, L Salvesan, X Guma, C Nompozolo As another year draws to a close it is time once again for reflection and to take stock of what we achieved in 2016. I stand in awe of the calibre of young men we have in our school and in particular the Snow House boys. Unfortunately, we as staff members can’t take all the credit and this credit must go to the boys’ parents who have raised boys of good morals, values and with a solid grounding as to what is acceptable and what isn’t so that they can make informed and carefully thought through choices. This would not be a true boys’ school if we did not have some discipline issues – boys will be boys. I am, however, happy to report that most of the discipline issues were not of a serious nature. Strachan House Housemaster: Mr N Pillay Assistant Housemaster: Mr J Lyons Mentors: Miss Fletcher, Mr D Sherriff, Mrs K Storm, Mrs S Webley and Mr L Mdladla House captain: T Drummond House leaders: A Oberholzer, S Mntungwa, M Bray, C Merrington, B-J Schroeder Named after a great Deputy Headmaster (1962- 1978) John Roy ‘Cabbage’ Strachan, the House has already established itself as a competitive force within the system. This is cemented through our winning of the inter-house competition for 2016. Our emblem, the fighting antelope on our bright green shirts, characterises the spirit within each of us – in other words, the ‘never give up’ attitude. Our motto is Non timeo, sed caveo (I fear not but am cautious). The House system, introduced in 2014, has been invaluable in the development of our learners. The mentorship programme, increased competition, increased pastoral care and greater leadership opportunities for the boys has made the system easy to embrace. Firstly I would like take this opportunity to officially thank my Assistant Housemaster, Mr J Lyons, who has been a pillar of strength in managing the house. A big thank you must also go to the mentors, Mrs Webley, Mrs Storm, Mr Mdladla, Miss Fletcher and Mr Sheriff for their co-operation and dedication to the demands of the House. To the House captain, T Drummond, vice-captain N Manchev, Deputy Head L Johnson and prefect, L Jali, and the House Leaders – we thank them for shouldering their responsibilities well. Their enthusiasm in organising the various events coupled with their personal involvement must be applauded. Sadly we bid farewell to Mrs Storm who has taken up a promotion post at St John DSG. Mrs Storm was a committed and dedicated mentor. Her friendly disposition and approachable nature endeared her to her mentor class and staff alike. We congratulate her and wish her well in her new appointment. In 2015 we fell short of expectations and finished in a poor ninth position. This year we achieved a commendable first position overall, with some exceptional and inspiring performances in most events. Congratulations to the tennis, rugby, table tennis, water polo, swimming and soccer teams 94 Snow House excelled this year in the inter-house competition, achieving first place i
