Maritzburg College Old Boys ’ Association Induction Ceremony
A group of young and proud Collegians with their pledges , looking the part in their Old Boys ’ blazers and ties .
The Class of 2016 were welcomed into the folds of the Maritzburg College Old Boys ’ Association at an auspicious induction ceremony held on the eve of their final day of school . Jesse Filafero ( Head Prefect in 2012 ) addressed the boys before Tristan Drummond ( a fourth-generation Collegian and Sixth Former ) read out a poem he had written . The occasion was increasingly memorable for many of the class of 2016 as their fathers , Old Collegian ’ s themselves , handed them their Old Boys ’ ties .
Red Brick Walls
I cry for days past in joyful youth For brothers old and new ; I cry for good times , I cry for bad I cry and so will you . I cry for the end So near , it ’ s come ; I cry for I ’ m scared to leave My brothers , in the sun . I cry , for goodbye is so much sadder than hello ; I cry tears of pain , For it pains me to say that soon I will let this place go . I cry for Goldstone ’ s , I cry for Pape ’ s , For Barns ’ and Nicholson ’ s and Snow , For that ’ s where we created our bond . I cry for that ’ s where boys to men do grow . I cry , for these red brick walls have raised me and all of you ; I cry for our days in these halls we must all too soon bid adieu . But the tears we cry Are not in vain , For we have played Each and every game With spirit and love And heart and fire For our beloved school That this poem did inspire . And as we walk , one final time , As brothers from these red brick walls , Absorb the feeling ,
Breathe the air , Experience the passion , The nostalgia , the care . We are leaving , The time has come ; We have finally arrived And our laughter has become Echoes in these walls ; Our footsteps Imprints upon this ground . This is home ; This is where my brothers I found . Through thick and thin , The highs the lows , But our chapter at College We now must close .
