Our Chess Club has had a busy year, competing at District level and further
afield on our various exchanges with schools in Gauteng. K Maharaj
(Third Form) has once again excelled by making the uMgungundlovu
team, and has made Board 6 on the KZN team. M Mbambo (Sixth Form)
and S Yenzela (Fifth Form) deserve special mention as they made the
uMgungundlovu team and competed at the KwaZulu-Natal trials. Our team
also did very well to come first in the less formal Schools’ Midlands League
against Maritzburg Christian School, St Charles College, Alexandra High
School, Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School, Carter High School, Heritage
Academy and Grace College.
In the third term, our top players competed at Alexandra High for the
Individual’s Midlands Team. The following boys were selected for the side:
Board 1 – K Maharaj, Board 5 – T Hughes, Board 7 – S Gounder,
and Board 9 – C Tomlin.

The Cinematography Society boys of 2016, under the leadership of
Y Mbabama, have had a busy and productive year. The boys have been
involved in both cultural and sporting activities. It has been extremely
pleasing to see the commitment and willingness these boys have shown.
There are some exciting times ahead for the Cinematography Society.
