The Denness Open Tennis league was played on Mondays in the first term.
College entered one team in the A-section and played against most of
the schools in the Midlands district. Friday matches, linked to Saturday’s
fixtures in other sports, were played against a number of schools. We
entered a senior and a junior team where possible. We also hosted PBHS
and Affies and travelled to PBHS and Grey College as part of the winter
sports exchanges.
M Welch was selected as tennis captain for 2016. Mr M Nixon, a College
Old Boy, coached our seniors and juniors. We thank him and wish him the
very best for the future. Mrs Immelman managed the U14 and U15 players
and we also thank her for her commitment and enthusiasm.
In February and March the Midlands selection play-offs took place at
Kershaw Park and we entered a number of boys in both the junior and
the senior sections. J Keith and M Maphumulo were selected for the U15
Midlands team and N Manchev and N van Kooten for the U19 team.
Manchev and Maphumulo progressed further to play for KwaZulu-Natal
and Manchev was selected for the South African U19 team.
In the third term the U19 League and the U15 Bonnefin League were
played from July to September. In the U19 league we entered one team
in the A-section. We also entered one team in the U15-section. The teams
played with great enthusiasm and enjoyed excellent matches.
Tennis inter-house matches, held in the second term, were great fun and two
players per house participated. The overall winner was Strachan House.
