SOCCER U16B The U16B soccer team had a fine season. The lack of game time affected us but the team was becoming stronger every day. I was proud to coach this team as their work rate and effort was good throughout the season. Regular players: L Khwela, C Beekrum, I Ayoob, M Wedekind, K Maroney, J Clacey, D Croudace, S Zuma, M Mkhwanazi, J Stoffels, T Mudunge, P Kidd, TP Ngcobo, N Haasbroek, N Zulu, T Walker, S Mkhize, G-C Torino Results: made my job as their coach much easier. Given time and more coaching, I am confident that they will be contenders when they get to 1st team level. Regular players: L Zondi, L Wedge, K Hollenberg, T Nzimande, K Mthethwa, C Taylor, D Lutchman, S Maphanga, J Keith, W Andriessen, S Myeza, N Napier, R Himwanth, K Naidoo, S Butler Results: vs Westville 0-4, Clifton 4-0, DHS 2-2, Hilton 1-2, Michaelhouse - no result, rained out vs Hilton 0-1, DHS 1-1, Westville 0-2 Mr W Mkhize Mr L Mdladla U16C The U16C soccer team had a difficult season this year. They were badly affected by some poor weather conditions – one match had to be called off at half time – and they encountered some tough opposition. The boys showed an incredible amount of heart and fighting spirit, even when things were not going their way. Their enthusiasm and commitment to the game was remarkable and there was an overall improvement in their game as the season progressed. I look forward to seeing how they develop in the years to come. Regular players: L Khwela, I Ayoob, K Maroney, D Croudace, S Zuma, TP Ngcobo, P Kidd, T Walker, I Olifant, Y Govender, S Mkhize, G-C Torino, C Beekrum, M Mkhwanazi Results: vs Westville 1-4, Michaelhouse (abandoned at 0-0), DHS 0-2, Hilton 2-4 Mr J Pillay U15A The U15C soccer team had a mixed set of results which were not a true reflection of how talented the players were individually. In all their games they enjoyed the greater share of ball possession and looked comfortable on the ball, as well as dangerous going forward on attack. The attacking force of S Zungu and K Naidoo consistently terrorised the opposition defence. The midfield players, particularly L Diedricks, N Mfeka and J Govender, played an important role. They did an excellent job in keeping play tidy and always overshadowed their opposition. The defence, however, was a bit shaky at times – defending is a far more technical part of the game. K Kirsten did an exceptional job to captain the team from the back and keep the defence performing consistently. Altogether the season was phenomenal and I as a coach could not have asked for a better group of boys with which to work. Each individual improved his game substantially and showed signs of becoming an adept footballer, who would progress even further. I wish all the boys the best of luck going forward in their careers, and at Maritzburg College. Regular players: The 2016 year was a difficult one for the U15A team. Initially they were plagued by a lack of players because of their commitments to rugby and hockey – those sports ran well into the soccer season. The team therefore achieved a string of inconsistent results during this period. Once all the boys became available, the team produced a better brand of football and three of our boys, N Khubeka, B Gumbi and N Msiya, were selected for the Pietermaritzburg team. The team was captained by L Zondi who showed great initiative and leadership. B Gumbi alwa
