RUGBY
The season did not start out as we had planned when we lost the first game to Grey College . The boys had to dig deep because there were two tough weeks ahead .
The next two games were a test of character for the boys and they were able to win both of them going into the break with a much needed boost . In the following three games , they were unstoppable as they played exciting College rugby which had people jumping on the side line .
The last seven games did not go as we had planned as there were a number of injuries during the season . However , we won three of the seven , in total losing five games and winning eight . During all these ups and down the boys were led by K Bolton who was playing scrumhalf and had a great season with the boot as he managed to succeed with most of his kicks . Helping him from the forwards was M Mundell who backed him up with amazing pick-ups from the base of the scrum from the 8th man position .

Rugby 7s
The Rugby 7s started with a three week disadvantage as all the other schools commenced the Sevens campaign at the start of the third term .
The first tournament in which the team participated was our own Skonk Nicholson Tournament . The team did not disappoint and ended up in the Cup Final against the tournament favourites , DHS . Although the team lost , it was an encouraging start to their campaign .
The squad participated in a further two tournaments and performed well , losing in the Cup semi-final to Glenwood in the Sharks Field of Dreams Tournament and lost narrowly to Westville in the plate semi-final of the DHS tournament .
There was a core squad of boys that saw the season out and they all gained in 7s experience and showed a great improvement .
Two students , J Truter and N Mjara , were selected to represent the KZN U17 7s Team in the Inter-provincial Tournament .
Skonk Nicholson Tournament :
Pool stage : vs Clifton won 50-0 vs Kloof won 19-7 vs Pionier in the Quarter-final won 7-5 vs Westville in the Cup Semi-final won 14-7
U14E vs DHS in the Cup Final lost 28-7
The U14E rugby team was a spirited and enthusiastic group . From a results perspective , it was not a very successful season for this team , but one could never fault them for the passion they showed , often against far stronger opposition . They were at times intimidated against the big out-of-province schools but as they become more confident as players we could see them grow as the season progressed . One must take into account that a number of the boys were first time players .
The team was very ably captained by T Gibbons , who despite being the smallest player in stature on the team , made up for this by having the biggest heart on the field .
I look forward to watching the progress of each player over the next couple of years and hopefully will see a few of them playing in top sides at College . Remember our motto , ‘ you will become what you decide you want to be ’.
My thanks to all the student coaches who helped throughout the season , their input was most valued and appreciated by the players and me .
