RUGBY
E Qwalela : He is a big and powerful ball carrier . He often got the team on the front foot with some really hard work with ball in hand . He often intimidated opposition with his furiousity . He also has a bright future in the game .
S Pinkiney : The real bull terrier in the team . He always got stuck in at every opportunity . He carried the ball well and often made some telling tackles . He has a bright future as an open side flank .
B Tedder : He made the move from hockey to rugby and made a massive impact straight away . He often made some telling tackles and the strength he showed with ball in hand was admirable . He took a few knocks during the season and showed great resolve in coming back . He too has a bright future in the game .
W Hlope : As the season progressed he showed signs of the type of player he will become . He is a big and powerful ball carrier and often got over the advantage line . As a Second Former he fitted into the age group very well , and this is testament to his character .
B Jordaan : He played most of the season in the A-side and has come a long way from his U14 year . He got through a lot of work during the game and can be commended for the tenacity he showed .
C Schultz : He showed a lot of commitment on and off the field and attended every single practice . He is a very strong boy with a strong pass , both left and right . He is particularly good on defence .
J van der Walt : He was our team captain and did a fine job . If he can keep his head grounded , he will definitely be one to watch in the future . As a kicker he was very good , not just at poles but out of hand as well . This often gave us an attacking opportunity in the opposition half . He also showed a tremendous ability to read the game and worked hard on his overall play as a fly-half .
A Nzimande : He is athletically very strong and showed great footwork during the season . He also had the ability to slot in at centre and did a very good job on defence . Going forward in his career he will have to work on his speed and if he does so he will definitely be one to watch .
A Ntaka : A boy with a lot of potential as a rugby player , but he needs to show greater commitment to improving his performance . On the field he always gave his best .
B Nene : He has the ability to read space well and to look for gaps as a centre . He also showed commitment on defence and his self-confidence grew with each game . He has a quality left boot that worked beautifully for us on attack and he communicated well on defence by organising our line speed .
S Kekana : Probably the best defender in our backline with tremendous speed . He is a very humble and passionate young man who always gave a hundred percent for this team . He has a lot of talent and should go far in his rugby career .
N Nsuntsha : He was also a stand out for us on attack , coming into the line with a lot of speed . He worked hard on his kicking game throughout the season and always asked questions on how to improve his game at fullback . He showed a lot of grit and willpower and was a valuable member of the team .
B Reddy : He is one of the most committed rugby players I have seen in a while and was absolutely fearless on defence . He could always be counted on to give his best . He will definitely be a contender next year for a solid spot in the A-side .

They say that it is not about how you start a marathon , but how you finish it that counts . With thirteen fixtures in the season , a number of which were out of the province , the season truly was a marathon . The race started in Bloemfontein where we were completely outplayed by a superior outfit in the Grey College U15B side . We had a much better result the following week against PBHS at home , but there was still much to be improved upon . This single victory was followed by two weeks which proved to be the low point in our season as we lost comprehensively to Westville and KES . Our fixture against KES was the team ’ s watershed moment of the season . Our season took an upward turn from then on with improved ball retention and a no-nonsense defence . In the remaining six matches of the second term we only lost one game by a single point to Westville . This was a massive improvement from our previous encounter with them .
The second term was aptly ended with a well-fought away win against Glenwood , proving the side ’ s tremendous growth from the start of the season . The third term commenced with an eagerly awaited encounter against Affies that was closely fought to the end , resulting in defeat , but was a brave effort from the boys . The final two fixtures of the season were exactly how one would want to finish a marathon – strong and in good style . In PBHS there was almost no contest for the rampaging unit from Maritzburg . The final fixture versus Glenwood was the proverbial cherry on top , with a 50-0 whitewash being a most satisfying way to conclude a season . It was not only the extreme score line , but the manner in which the team played that was impressive and testament to the team ’ s culture of playing for each other , accompanied by their relentless drive for excellence . The captain S Zunckel , who played in all thirteen fixtures , did a fine job of leading from the front . Special mention must also be made of a stalwart of the side , A Breedt , who also played in all thirteen fixtures and made a valuable contribution on each occasion . Clearly evident was the development of each boy in the side , and all can be very proud of their improvement . I will be following their progress with interest and wish them all the very best for the future .

Mr D Hoffman
The U15C side had a very successful season , winning 75 % of their games . There was also a draw against the Michaelhouse U15B side . The only losses were against Affies and Grey College and the score line flattered the opposition . College were very competitive for most of the games .
There were a number of changes to the side during the course of the season and very seldom did the same XV turn out on successive Saturdays . Despite this handicap the boys gelled right from the start and they are to be commended on their loyalty to the College badge . A few boys also had games for the B-team and it is pleasing that this ability was recognised . It is sincerely hoped that all these boys continue to play the game because they have a bright future ahead of them .
