Jackie Cook began teaching at Maritzburg College in January 2000 . She developed a reputation for expecting high standards from the boys and she enjoyed extending them beyond the curriculum by continually exposing them to the joy of acquiring knowledge . She has a very sharp intellect and is a life-long learner and so she endeavoured to instil in the boys a thirst for honing skills and the thrill of learning . She was a passionate and dedicated teacher of English and Visual Arts and she went on to serve as the Head of Visual Arts . Jackie left us during the course of 2016 to follow her passion . We wish her well and thank her for her commitment to education . ( NO PHOTO AVAILABLE )

Her friend and colleague , Mrs Jeanette Finnie , paid tribute to Debbie , describing her as as a passionate , dynamic and creative educator who believed that learning was more than a curriculum , it was about preparation for life . “ Debbie expected a great deal from the boys but gave so much more . Her classes were taught about tolerance , fairness and respect , to stand up for what is right and to always consider how one ’ s actions will make people feel . Debbie ’ s maxim was ‘ what is best for the boys ’ and she would do whatever was necessary to give our boys the best possible education . She brought such positivity , energy and vitality to her job .
