HOCKEY
U16C
Regular players:
This year the U16C team was an absolute privilege to coach. As the
statistics indicate we had an undefeated season, winning all 14 of our
games. This was achieved through hard work, dedication and an overall
commitment shown by the boys on and off the turf. As a coach I am very
proud of these young men who came together as a unit and gave all they
had for each other and the ‘Red Army’. I would like to thank our number
one fans on the side of the field, the parents, for their continued support.
I wish the boys all the best for their future hockey careers. Finally, I would
like to thank Messrs Emerson and Van der Merwe for their outstanding
input, advice and guidance throughout this season.

The U16F had a great season, losing just one match in nine and that was
the first game of the season. After the loss they worked very hard and the
results bore this out. I was very honoured to coach these boys because
of their dedication and commitment. The team trained and played with
passion and good team spirit. The parents also played an important role
in our performance through their support and we were able to fight as a
team and win games.

I was very fortunate to take over the U16D hockey team from Ms Fletcher
in the second term. I thank her for her hard work and dedication to a team
that performed so well during the season. These boys showed commitment
and a truly remarkable team spirit that resulted in an almost unbeaten
season. Every player contributed to this team’s impressive results of seven
wins, one draw and only one loss. My thanks go to those parents that were
there to support the boys and to the umpires that were there for our games.
It was a pleasure to be involved with this team and to see each of these
players improve and enjoy the game of hockey.

The team started off in rather an unstructured manner but by systematically
working through our defence, to our midfield and ending with our strikers,
we started seeing some great results. Ultimately the team won fifty percent
of their games through great play. The team was charismatically led by
B John who kept his team mates motivated from the back by being vocal,
leading by example and pulling off some inspirational saves. The team’s
overall results were: won five, drew one and lost four games. Although
I feel we should have lost fewer games. I still feel the boys fought hard
through every game and there is not really much more a coach can ask
from his team. Credit must be given to S Mkhize and T Cloete, who worked
extremely hard in every game, providing a great foundation for some
strong performances. Considering our slow start to the season, I am very
proud of how the boys ended off the year.
