Nomads U18 Festival ( hosted by Wynberg Boys ’ High School )
vs SACS : Won 3-2
The Nomads Festival was always going to be challenging due to the quality of the competition in the Cape . Our first test was against SACS where we found ourselves under some early pressure with a two-goal deficit in the first eight minutes . The boys , however , did not panic and settled into their structure to get the win in the second half .

vs Wynberg Boys ’ High : Won 2-0
This fixture is always hotly contested and this year would prove to be no easier . Again the match was very tight but College managed to find the net twice with the hosts having no response . Thus the first day ’ s action at Nomads ended with two wins to College .
Goalscorer : Forrest ( 2 )
vs Selborne College : Won 3-1
Selborne play a style of hockey that we are not used to in the Midlands . This is always an exciting encounter and a fixture that is very important to us . College came out very sharp scoring three goals in the space of eight minutes , courtesy of drag flicker , Forrest . The score remained this way for the rest of the half . Selborne came out hot in the second half and pulled a goal back after College committed numbers forward in attack . Despite a late surge from Selborne , it was not enough to overturn the deficit .
Goalscorer : Forrest ( 3 )
vs Rondebosch Boys ’ High : Won 1-0
We don ’ t often get an opportunity to play against Rondebosch and what a contest it turned out to be . Rondebosch were a quality outfit , very skilled and well-drilled . They dominated the first half with seven penalty corner opportunities , but Magoso and the defence team were equal to the task . College could consider themselves lucky to not have conceded and went into the break 0-0 . The second half saw a momentum shift with College enjoying more possession and territorial advantage . College managed to get the winner with four minutes to go and successfully held off a final push from Rondebosch .
Goalscorer : Campbell
vs Grey College : Won 3-2
We had played against Grey earlier in the year and scored a late winner . This game was very interesting and tight . College took an early lead and went two goals up . Grey pulled one back just before the break . College scored again in the second half and Grey responded . The momentum shifted in Grey ’ s favour and they pushed hard , but could not equalise .
Goalscorers : Forrest ( 2 ), Marshall vs King Edward VII School ( Away ): Won 3-1
After a very successful trip to Wynberg the 1st XI found themselves on another bus trip , this time to KES to play a team that is never easy to beat at home . College started well and scored after ten minutes , a lead they maintained until the interval . It had been a scrappy contest up to that stage . The second half saw KES equalise early on from a penalty corner and College came under some pressure . In the last ten minutes College scored two further goals to complete the win .
Goalscorers : Forrest ( 2 ), Horan
vs Northwood ( Home ): Won 5-2
College hosted Northwood for what turned out to be a very exciting match on Pape ’ s . The visitors started very well and put College under pressure with two early goals . Vice-captain and striker , Forrest , scored a drag flick and soon after a penalty stroke to level the score at 2-2 going into the half-time . Goalscorers : Forrest ( 3 ), Godfrey , Sherwood
vs Kearsney College ( Home ): Won 3-2
College hosted Kearsney College for what turned out to be a thrilling encounter . Both teams came out firing , attacking whenever possible , but Kearsney drew first blood with a screamer into the top corner of the net . College responded immediately with two goals within a minute and held onto the lead until the break . After twenty minutes in the second half , a further goal gave College a two-goal cushion . Kearsney fought back with a penalty stroke two minutes from time and College had to hang on for a hard-fought victory .
Goalscorers : Glutz , Forrest , Volmink
vs Westville ( Away ): Drew 2-2
This match is usually closely contested and 2016 was no exception . The game was very tight as the teams felt each other out . College opened the scoring midway through the first half and went into the break leading 1-0 . Westville seemed to have the upper hand early in the second half and equalized with a good attack down the right hand side of the field .
Exerting pressure thereafter , College finally got the breakthrough a minute before full-time and just needed to hold onto the ball , but twice gave it back to the home team , who equalised with a well-worked routine penalty corner .

College faced DHS on their Founders Day . The match started with great intensity with College scoring within the first few minutes of the game and adding two further goals before half-time for a 3-0 lead at that stage . College came out quickly in the second half and soon scored their fourth goal . Both teams continued to attack , but neither could turn opportunities into goals .

vs Hilton ( Home ): Won 3-0
College took on Hilton on Pape ’ s Astroturf on College ’ s Reunion Day . This placed pressure on the College 1st XI who needed to win on their Reunion Day . They did not disappoint . The match began tightly with both teams pressing high and applying pressure , but College broke the deadlock five minutes before half-time . Then a second goal , two minutes later , gave College a 2-0 lead at the break . Hilton applied some pressure after the break but seldom threatened and it was College who had the last say with a third goal seven minutes from full-time .

The second half was as entertaining with College having the bulk of the scoring chances and seeing them score two further field goals before Glenwood reduced the deficit from another penalty corner . The game ended 4-2 to College and the game lived up to expectations , being highly competitive and played with spirit .
