CRICKET develop their cricketing ability . The team was ably led by H Askew , who grew in confidence as the season went on and did his best to motivate the team on the field . There is much ahead for these players and I am confident there will be more KZN Inland selections and big milestones achieved from this group next year and in the future .
Player Critique :
H Askew ( captain , right-hand bat , right-arm leg-spin ): A motivated and hard-working cricketer who showed enthusiasm at all times whilst on the field . His captaincy and leadership grew as the season progressed and he should not be shy to take risks and make mistakes as a leader . He got the ball to turn and made life difficult for the opposition batsmen . I am sure he will do well with the bat in seasons to come .
H Zunckel ( vice-captain , right-arm medium , right-hand bat ): Being a great thinker and motivator , he assisted his captain and the bowlers well . He was fantastic with the new ball and put the batsmen under pressure early on . He has the potential to be a good middle order batsman but needs to be patient at the crease .
R Akerman ( right-hand bat , right-arm off-spin ): He took the challenge of opening the batting head-on and worked hard throughout the season to improve on his technique . He played some solid shots off the back foot and got off to some good starts . He had a few opportunities with the ball and proved that he can bowl consistent off-spin .
R Klusener ( right-hand bat , right-arm medium ): A hard working allrounder who set high expectations for himself . A technically sound and consistent batsman , he applied himself well at the crease . His cover-drives earned him many runs and were a joy to watch . He lacked consistency as a bowler but often stepped up to take a crucial wicket .
K Goedeke ( KZN Inland U15 , right-hand bat , right-arm off-spin ): Everything you would want in a number four batsman . He hit the ball hard , had an array of shots and scored at more than a run a ball in most innings , finishing with a strike rate of 103 and an average of 47 . His decision making early on in his innings cost him his wicket a few times but as he matured he showed more patience . He was a consistent bowler who got the ball to turn and bounce as he dried up the opposition runs and took wickets .
D Bruyns ( right-hand bat ): He sees the ball well at the crease and played some impressive drives through the covers and had some solid innings . He tended to overthink the scenarios he found himself in and the fear of losing his wicket held him back . As he develops and sticks to his game plan he will find more consistent success .
J McCabe ( right-hand bat , right-arm off-spin ): A cricketer who played fearlessly and with flair . He hit the ball with power and intent and scored quickly . He hit a consistent line and length and kept the runs down through his spells and created many wicket opportunities for himself and other bowlers as he built pressure .
T Trollip ( right-arm medium , right-hand bat ): He has the ability to hit the ball further than most U14s . Sometimes this was his downfall as he tried to be too aggressive too early on and his shot selection let him down . A vital all-rounder who got the ball to swing away from the right hander with precision .
M King ( right-arm fast ): A genuine strike bowler who instilled fear into the top order of many teams . This young man worked extremely hard to sharpen his skills and become a bowler that out-thought his opponents . His 4 wickets for 8 runs in 3 overs against DHS epitomised his ability and passion as a cricketer .
K Tullis ( wicket-keeper , left-hand bat ): A sharp keeper with good hands who enjoyed much success standing up to the stumps . He took many catches and stumpings , but must continue to neaten up and be consistent through an entire innings . As a batsman , he has good technique and an array of shots and as he grows in strength he will make more of an impact .
S Mbatha ( right-arm fast ): He bowls with a very efficient and clean action that allows him to generate good pace and bounce . He struggled to bowl a consistent line though , and had problems with his run up which often made him expensive . He is a threatening bowler who took wickets at crucial stages in matches .
R Brokensha ( right-hand bat ): A real live wire in the field who kept the buzz going as he talked and threw himself around making good stops and taking many catches . He has the ability to be a good middle order batsman as he plays with freedom and is a sweet timer of the ball .
N Msomi ( right-arm medium , right-hand bat ): He is consistent with the ball in hand . He had the ability to bowl six balls in a row outside off stump which was very frustrating and limiting for the batsmen . He was economical and performed well whenever he was given the ball .

U14B
Mr K Emerson
The U14B team had a very successful year producing pleasing results . There was a healthy competition amongst the boys who play for the U14A and U14B . Their commitment and desire to do well was always evident . Under the leadership of R Brokensha and C Stubbs the team achieved a lot and had good experiences . Their work ethic and commitment must be commended . In the first term they played really well , losing only one game to Michaelhouse . The U14B team worked as a unit and they were always there for each other . These boys always put the team first and they have developed into fine young men who are easy to work with . It has been such a privilege to work with them and I know they will do well next year . Thank you to all the parents for their support .
