The boys showed great enthusiasm and seemed to bond nicely right from the first practice. The team played a total of seven matches in the year and won five and lost two. At a later stage of the season it became more difficult to maintain momentum as many players moved from team to team owing to injuries and performances, but the boys in general were able to come away with good results. Highlights were good wins over Kearsney, Glenwood and a special run chase was achieved against St Charles. The team was captained by M Diaz, and the vice-captain was T Moore. Both lads led with distinction and I thank them for their commitment to the team. The team played well as a unit, but standout players must be mentioned. Z Seegers, A Nzimande, G Bashford and A Walstroom performed well with the ball, and T Moore, M Hemingway, Z Seegers and R Robert made significant contributions with the bat. The team was well-spirited, well-balanced and the boys genuinely had fun throughout the year. They always gave of their best and did College proud. I wish them all the best for the future. Thank you to the parents who came to support regularly and to all the boys for a memorable and enjoyable season. Regular players: M Diaz (captain), T Moore (vice-captain), M Keith, J Kramer, Z Seegers, J Voller, A Nzimande, R Robert, Q Gounder, G Bashford, C Smith, M Hemmingway, K Pointer, C Cumming, M Cornelius, J Vally, T Khan, M Ebrahim, A Khanyile, A Walstroom The 6th team had its ups and downs, winning two of their games and losing three. All round the team had some weaknesses which the boys will need to work on for the future, but overall they played cricket which was exciting to watch. The team was ably led by the captain, C Beckerling, who batted well, achieving two fifties in important games. The fielding was perhaps not as good as it should have been, but it would be unfair of me not to mention some great catches and fielding by K Wiggill, A Pieterse and J Sibiya. In the bowling attack H Swift, T Veitch, K Warman, Wiggill, Beckerling and Sibiya took some crucial wickets and bowled so well that at times l forgot it was a high school cricket game. Many of the games were competitive and played in a wonderful spirit. All the boys who played for the 5th XI were always keen and driven to do well. There were some great individual performances, as indicated in the results below, but the boys always played for each other and the team. The enthusiasm and collective unity of the group made it a pleasure to coach and made the practices entertaining and fun. I wish all the boys the best for 2017.
