CRICKET
lightning quick hands and can play the most outrageous of shots but his
temperament to score big, and often, needs to improve. He had the best
hands in the team and was a great slip fielder.
W Botes (Large White Badge): A tight, darting off-spinner and lower order
batsman. This was his second year in the team and he bowled reasonably
well. He managed to keep the batsmen restricted in terms of run rate. He
needs to work on his fielding and being more a part of the team if he wants
to do well after school.
M Crampton (Kingsmead Mynahs, Large White Badge): He loves cricket
more than anything else and he really made the most of his talent. He
was always one hundred percent committed and would do anything for
his team and team mates. He had a never-say-die attitude and always
encouraged his team. As a left arm spinner he has the ability to wreak
havoc on opposition but needs to remain confident in his ability if he is to
do so. He was better than a lower order batsman and really worked hard
at his game.
M Jeary (Large White Badge): A big hitting lower order batsman, he
could tear an attack to shreds. He was particularly strong on the drive but
he must work hard in order to score in more varied positions. He was a
medium paced line and length bowler. Although accurate, he needs to find
an extra yard of pace going forward.
W Speller Burls (Large White Badge): Although normally an opening
batsman, he batted in the lower middle order for the first team, scoring
some valuable runs. He was a great team man and always lifted the spirits
and released the pressure of the side.
Other players who represented the 1st XI were:
S Rowe, M Diedericks, J Campbell, M Khumalo, J Gengan, N Pio,
S Ten-Bokkel Huinink, A Bradford, J van der Walt, C Hollaway, B Spence.
Match Reports:
Durban High School (DHS) 150th Festival
The College team played in Durban in the DHS 150th cricket week. The
week was run superbly well and it was a very good exercise for our young
and inexperienced team, as we had some boys who were playing in the
Cubs Franchise Cricket week in Stellenbosch. We had seven debutants in
our squad so it was always going to be a challenging week. We played
some good cricket but our young and inexperienced batting line up let
us down at times. The weather played a big role during the week, with
rain and some very overcast and bowling-friendly conditions. Winning
the toss had a big part to play in some of the games. The most pleasing
aspect was our bowling and fielding units, which really did well, especially
considering that we had come off a five week holiday break.
