BASKETBALL
U14A
This talented team has been a pleasure to coach . The year has been a roller coaster ride with the boys trying to find the perfect combination on the court . They started off the year very well with the team ’ s captain , H Trodd , leading the boys with assurance . Our biggest challenge was getting the team to gel as they had come from different primary schools and did not know one another well . They needed to learn and understand the true concept of being a team and to trust one another .
The team was quite small in terms of size , but the boys were determined to do well . I have faith that they will lift the College colours high in the years to come , and they should not let the fourth term results discourage them .

The fourth term came with a roller coaster of emotions . The boys took the change in coaching personnel from the first term to the fourth term in their stride . Unbeaten in the first term , the boys started the season off with a 2-point loss to Westville . This was their only loss of the season . There were a few shuffles in the team with some players going to the A team and others coming up from the C team but in the end we had a solid unit of committed players who went out and showcased the hard work that was put in at practice , game after game . The boys ’ ball movement was lovely to watch and even earned them compliments from the 1st team coach after they beat Glenwood 78-0 . All in all it was a great season and the boys can be proud of their performance and improvement throughout the year .

The first term proved most difficult as most of the boys were new to the sport . As a coach one cannot help but admire the way they improved their skills at scoring baskets as the season progressed . This progress paid dividends towards the end of a productive season .
The fourth term seemed more promising as the boys displayed greater skill than in the first term . The likes of S Mnyani , N Bhengu , M Khuboni , C van Selm , N Mkhize and N Qwabe showed great strength in their scoring abilities on the court . A Loretz is a player who showed much potential , and with a little more coaching , he has the potential to become an outstanding post player . S Manyathi and J Barrett were both strong defensive players . However , together with L Hyde , they still need to work on their skills in scoring baskets . One can conclude that the boys have had a good season as they learnt much in the way of movement on the court and thus managed to secure victories in the fourth term .
