Chelsea Holifield plays Belle in Disney ’ s ‘ Beauty and the Beast ’.

Directed by Jay Manley , with music direction by David Möschler and choreography by Nicole Helfer , Beauty and the Beast features Chelsea Holifield as Belle , Daniel Rubio as the Beast , and includes favorite tunes from the show , like its signature song , Beauty and the Beast , sung by Mrs . Potts ( Jennifer Boesing ), which will have the audience humming along . The Mountain Play experience is unique , in that it ’ s in broad daylight , so the actors can see the audience , and spectators see each other too , making it a communal experience despite the large space . “ When emotion hits , it just swings through this huge amphitheater . Everyone shares it . It touches us in a way other things don ’ t ,” says Pearson .
“ I love musical theater more than any other theatrical art ,” she adds , and she shares a quote from Yip Harburg , the lyricist who wrote songs for the Wizard of Oz and the Broadway production of Finian ’ s Rainbow . “ Words make you think thoughts . Music makes you feel feelings . Songs makes you feel thoughts .” It ’ s a fitting description for the Mountain Play , a Marin tradition that does all three . MA & C
