Staging P.A.T.H.’s exhibit at Alcatraz took Lakes three years to put together, and included submitting a formal application, meeting strict guidelines, and gaining the permission and support of the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, Arts in the Parks and the National Park Service. Now, with the help of a few dedicated volunteers and local business supporters, Lakes hopes to introduce the more than 100,000 visitors who stumble into the Alcatraz Band Practice Room to the incarcerated artists who have expertly executed their “Art Escape” to Alcatraz.  Besides experiencing the ghostly presence of former inmates, these tourists will discover beautiful art and poetry as paths to creative freedom that cannot be locked away.  For these inmates, the band plays on. “Art Escape to Alcatraz” runs through June 30.
