A Fun Night Out
The San Rafael Pacifics minor league baseball club is beginning their sixth season of family fun and exciting baseball at Albert Park in San Rafael . The Pacifics pride themselves not only on their commitment to community service throughout Marin County , but also on offering an engaging fan experience that includes exceptional food , drinks and activities on and off the field . The Pacifics experience also includes unique party and group event venues around the ballpark for fullycatered birthday parties , company events and pre-game hospitality .
When it comes to thinking outside the box with wild and whacky promotions , no one does it better than the Pacifics . In fact , the stranger and edgier the better . In 2015 , we became the first team to use computerized umpire call balls and strikes . We ’ ve had the players wear dresses ( for breast cancer awareness ), and have twice had legend Bill “ Spaceman ” Lee , well over the age of 65 , play for the team . We ’ ve given away a funeral and had a salute to indoor plumbing .
This year , we have plenty more eccentricity planned . On Bras for The Cause Night ( August 26 ), all Pacifics players will be wearing bras , and on Alternative Facts Night ( July 1 ), we ’ ll have a salute to Russian democracy and expect a HUGE crowd of three-to-five million people .
It all adds up to a lot of low-cost fun and excitement for friends , families and special groups . We hope to see you at Albert Park this summer for a fun night out with the Pacifics .
Lots of Changes at the Throckmorton Theatre
By Desiree Goyette-Bogas
Steven Hess , the Director of Youth Programs at the Throckmorton Theatre for almost 10 years , and who helped create a culture that has inspired many kids , is moving on . He and his wife , Bidalia Albanese ( who choreographed many of the Throckmorton ’ s productions , and runs the drama program for Marin Horizon School ), are bringing the dream of running their own theatre company to life . They are taking over the helm of Marilyn Izdebski Productions , Jazz , Tap & Musical Theatre in San Anselmo . Although Izdebski will continue doing some projects , she is handing the lion ’ s share over to Steven and Bidalia and their company , 23 Elephants Theatre Company . Their “ swan song ,” at the Throck is Beauty and the Beast , which runs through June 4 .
Their successor at the Throck is Amy Marie Haven , a theater teacher at the Oakland School for the Arts . An incredible personality and director , she is already rekindling and refining the culture of kindness and community at the theater . Her opening act there : The Music Man , a great old American musical , which she hopes to infuse with diversity and freshness . The show runs from July 27 through August 6 , and Haven says enthusiastically , “ It ’ s going to be a great way to spend the summer .”
