A bride’s bouquet is perhaps the most essential accessory she
carries with her on her wedding day. As she walks down the aisle,
waltzes into the reception and poses for photos, there the bouquet will
be. Like a splash of colour on a blank canvas, the bouquet artfully
showcases the personality of a bride. When you meet with a florist, take
every element of the bouquet into account before choosing: colour, type,
shape and size.

Think about the colour palette of your theme as well as the season in
which your wedding will be taking place. If it’s a spring wedding, watch
for bright arrangements that pop with colour such as yellow and pink
either with chrysanthemums or tulips. If it’s summer, look at pastel
bouquets featuring shades of pink, cream and buttery yellow with
roses, peonies and lilies. For fall, consider warm hues that combine
orange and red or fuchsia and mauve with ranunculus, astrantia and
hydrangeas. As for winter, go with either light or dark colours such as
white and red arrangements that include either calla lilies or roses.
To take the art of florals a step further, consider the latest trend: trailing
ribbons. The perfect finish to any bouquet, ribbons tend to match with
your colour palette (or provide contrast) along with adding flair to the
overall look. Not to mention, they’re oh-so pretty in photos. Add some to
your bridesmaids bouquets to keep things cohesive.
If you can’t decide between two arrangements, don’t. Keep one for the
ceremony and one for the reception. Whoever said you could only have
one? Load as many flowers as you can into the ceremonial bouquet and
keep a smaller one for the reception. Don’t go forgetting your darling
wedding party now. Have them carry beautiful bouquets of their own
either to match with yours or contrast.
As you reach the final stages of selecting your bouquet(s), be sure to take
a whiff – it may have a stronger scent than you anticipated. Some flowers
can be overwhelming to carry around all day. Make sure you find one you
will be comfortable with.
