Lane Mountain Co.
Valley
Since 1961, Lane Mountain Company has specialized in the production of high
purity, low iron silica sand from sandstone mined at nearby Lane Mountain. It is
now the largest producer of silica sand in the Pacific Northwest. Its soft white sand
is used to make glass, mortar, fiberglass, and is also popular in volleyball pits and
golf course sand traps.
Fifty employees work at Lane Mountain Company,
driving trucks and working in the plant that
transforms sandstone (upper right) mined from
Lane Mountain in the nearby Huckleberry
Mountain Range into 400,000 tons of silica sand
(lower right) every year. The company’s namesake
Lane Mountain (in the logo) is visible in the
distance in the photo at upper left.
