What’s Happening Around the District
The top 50 high school scholars were recognized
at the MISD Education Foundation’s annual
fundraising banquet. They shared the night with
their favorite teacher.
Two teams from Ben Barber Innovation Academy
came in the top two spots at the fifth annual
CHOPPED competition. They competed against other
North Texas high school teams and were judged on
creativity, presentation and taste.
Alice Ponder Elementary School had its golden
anniversary. The campus celebrated being 50 years old by
hosting a community carnival.

For Teacher Appreciation Week, teachers at Carol
Holt Elementary School were given plants to
symbolize how educators help students grow.
The Martha Reid Leadership Academy was one
of the stops on this year’s MISD Senior Tour.
Participants ages 55 and older visited a few schools
to see what’s new in education.
The Timberview High School band, cheerleaders
and drill team were the only high school acts
to perform at the NFL draft red carpet event in
Arlington.
