Eight Mansfield ISD high school students took home hardware after competing with other students across Texas in various academic categories .

The students qualified for the University Interscholastic League ( UIL ) academic state competition , which occurred May 4-5 at The University of Texas at Austin .

MISD Students Bring Back Medals from UIL Academic State Competition

Bailey Rizzo from Mansfield High School won gold in headline writing and bronze in journalism .
The current events team was quizzed on a state , national and world events and issues .
Mansfield High School ’ s current events team ( Karen Joseph , Chase Krieger , Emma Tran and Nick Werner ) took home the silver medal .
Other bronze medalists included Brandon Martin from Summit High School for the Congress contest . Legacy High School ’ s Kathryn Pedroza and Mansfield High School ’ s Abby Werner also took home a bronze medal for journalism .
There are 29 UIL academic contests at the high school level .

Seventh-Graders Recognized as Duke TIP Scholars

A group of Mansfield ISD seventh-graders has been recognized by the Duke University Talent Identification Program ( Duke TIP ) for high scores on the ACT or SAT college entrance exams .
Duke TIP ’ s Seventh Grade Talent Search is the largest program of its kind in the nation and identifies academically talented seventh-graders based on standardized test scores achieved while attending elementary or middle school .
Seven MISD middle school students earned the State Recognition distinction , meaning they scored at or above the national average of recent high school graduates on at least one part of the ACT or the SAT .
Congratulations to Jordan Boles ( Brooks Wester Middle School ), Dominic Byles ( Danny Jones Middle School ), Mariam Dohadwala ( James Coble Middle School ), Tyler Dozier ( Linda Jobe Middle School ), Sualeha Irshad ( Brooks Wester Middle School ), Lauren Krombach ( Rogene Worley Middle School ) and Thompson Le ( Brooks Wester Middle School ).
Being a Duke TIP scholar provides benefits that last through the end of high school , including the opportunity to take the ACT or SAT , specialized publications , college prep advice and access to educational programs .
