Newly Elected Board Members Swear In A fter the Mansfield ISD school board election on May 5, two new people were voted in to take over the vacant seats. Incumbent Michelle Newsom was uncontested for the Place 1 seat. Desiree Thomas, best known for her involvement on the MISD Council of PTAs, took the majority of the votes for the Place 2 seat with 69 percent. The seat became vacant after Beth Light announced that she would not be running for re-election. Randall Canedy, an advisory board member of the Mansfield ISD Education Foundation, won the race for the Place 3 seat with 60 percent of the votes. He will take over for Sandra Vatthauer, who was appointed to fill the spot vacated by Dr. Michael Evans. The canvassing of votes occurred on May 15 at a called board meeting. The new board members were officially sworn in at the May 22 regular board meeting. MISD board members serve a three-year term.
