Mansfield ISD Wins Financial Certificate of Excellence Award T he Association of School Business Officials (ASBO) International has awarded Mansfield Independent School District its Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting for having met or exceeded the program’s high standards for financial reporting and accountability. The district was recognized for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ending 2016. Sponsored by VALIC, the Certificate of Excellence (COE) award confirms the school business office’s commitment to financial accountability and transparency. Recognition through the COE program can help strengthen a district’s presentation for bond issuance statements and promotes high quality financial reporting. Superintendent Dr. Vaszauskas congratulates Dr. Wiesman and her team on winning the Financial Certificate of Excellence Award. “This award affirms what we know,” said MISD Superintendent Dr. Jim Vaszauskas. “Our Board of Trustees and business office is dedicated to financial excellence and integrity.” “I work with an incredible team of people,” said MISD Associate Superintendent of Business & Finance Dr. Karen Wiesman. “We believe in the district’s mission and in public education. This Certificate of Excellence shines a light on our goal to be transparent and responsible with our financial resources.” Mansfield ISD Celebrates Diversity D id you know there are 112 languages other than English spoken in Mansfield ISD? The fifth annual MISD Multi- cultural Festival celebrates the diversity found in MISD. Hundreds of MISD families came to the MISD Center for the Performing Arts on March 4 to enjoy a variety of cultural performances, art, and games from around the world. Attendees were also treated to a taste test of global foods thanks to the Ben Barber culinary arts students. But geography wasn’t the only subject on the agenda. A living museum allowed people to take a trip through time, while teachers from the Special Education department helped students and parents understand what a task is like for students with different abilities, such as playing basketball in a wheelchair or reading braille. While we might all come from different backgrounds or cultures, we are all MISD. 6 Mansfield School & Family
