Board Member Profile - Beth Light
What would be the perfect afternoon for you?
Sitting on a balcony with an amazing mountain view while
I read a book and enjoy friends.
Who was your role model as a kid? Why?
My most important role models were my mother, my aunt
and my dad. Mother andher sister were very strong and
independent woman who succeeded in areas of business
that did not involve women at that time. Dad was kind,
honest, ethical and tried to take care of anyone who needed
help. Both my parents were strict and loving, which
provided me with an amazing foundation. When faced with
particular situations today, I find myself asking how they
would have handled it.
What schools did you attend?
Littlefield, Texas is a farming community where I grew
up. I attended grades 1-11 there and completed my senior
year at Lubbock Christian High School. After graduating
from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Business
Administration, I completed graduate work there as well
asSt. Mary’s in San Antonio. Missing one minor cumulative
exam prevented me from receiving a master’s degree.
What is one quote that has become your life’s motto?
“I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone
across the waters to create many ripples.” - Mother Teresa

Give us a brief bio of your career.
After graduating from Texas Tech University, I worked
as a systems analyst. My husband Dennis and I made
several moves in years to come all over Texas.
The next stop was Maysville, Kentucky, where I became
a stay-at-home mom. Volunteering became my interest.
As a member of a school board of directors and a
women’s club, enough money was raised to create a
downtown park.
My husband later got a job in Arlington, Texas. He
directed metogo check out Mansfield because it was a
nice town. We purchased a house, our son
attended Boren Elementary, I asked how I
could volunteer there, and the rest has been
history since 1999.
I later started working with K-12 school
districts across the country implementing
computer software. Currently, I work with
professors at two and four-year colleges.
What makes you so passionate about
Mansfield ISD?
Watching the community, staff and
students come together todo what is right
for kids. Even aswe have become a large
district, we have maintained the “small
town” feel.
