Eryn Kriewall, music aide at J.L. Boren Elementary School, and Natalie Driver, educational technology trainer,
were presented with the award after being nominated by other MISD staff members.
The Heartbeat Award recognizes employees who display heart in their lives and inspire other district employees
through their actions. The award, according to Superintendent Dr. Jim Vaszauskas, is second only to getting a school
named after an employee.
Kriewall was nominated for her enthusiasm of music and her love of students.
“Eryn is truly an example of someone who puts students first,” said Tracy Johnson, principal of Boren Elementary.
“She’s always here to help whenever there’s a need. She goes the extra mile.”
Those who nominated Driver said that she is a continuous learner. She is passionate about her job and does her best
to equip teachers and students with the right tools.
“She’s always willing. She will learn something new in order for the teachers to be successful at it,” said Janice
North, director of instructional technology. “The fact that she’s the driving force behind the new things they’re doing
is not surprising.”
Kriewall and Driver both stated they were surprised and honored to earn the Heartbeat Award. They received a
plaque, gift basket and recognition ceremony for their great efforts.
