one of the top schools in the country
for fostering a college-readiness culture.
The campus received a revalidation
of its Advancement Via Individual
Determination (AVID) National
Demonstration School distinction on
Nov. 9.
AVID is a college-readiness system for
grades 5-12 designed to increase the
number of students who enroll in four-
year colleges or universities.

Coble Middle School staff said the distinction reflects the school motto:
“Pride. Respect. Responsibility.”
AVID is implemented in more than 6,200 schools. Approximately 160 of them are named as an AVID National
Demonstration School. Campuses are selected through a rigorous validation process that includes site visits, screenings
and reviews.
“Being a demonstration school means we have a system in place to help students be successful at Coble and beyond,” said
Principal Winston Gipson. “I am so proud of the students and staff who put in the work to make Coble Middle School an
AVID demonstration school.”
Coble Middle School first received its AVID designation in 2014. Demonstration schools are revalidated every three years
to ensure high levels of implementation.
