MISD Hosts Annual Multicultural Festival CENTER FOR PERFORMING ARTS | On Saturday, March 2 Mansfield ISD hosted its seventh annual Multicultural Festival at the MISD Center for the Performing Arts. The free event featured student performances, interactive games, arts and crafts, a living museum and food stations all showcasing the cultures represented within the MISD student body and community. “We started the Multicultural Festival to celebrate the diversity in MISD,” said Christopher Bryant, coordinator of the MISD Center for the Performing Arts. “We have a lot of great students here and great staff from different nations. This is an opportunity for all of us to come together and celebrate where we all come from and our heritage.” Students dressed as famous legends from different cultures. They also set up cooking shows for audiences to get a hands-on experience making those dishes. “One of the biggest draws are the culinary booths,” said Bryant. “They cook from 13 different nations so people can sample foods they probably would never get a chance to sample if they weren’t here.” Students appreciated learning the history of their peers. “I enjoy most that I get to learn more about our country and our world,” said Skylar Moncure, a third-grader at Judy K. Miller Elementary School. MISD holds this festival to highlight the diversity of the students, family and staff within the district. “MISD not only supports the students as families but we support who they are, we support their heritage, we support where they come from,” said Bryant. Many countries had booths with native dishes to sample. Alycen Phan (second from left) is the principal of Anna May Daulton Elementary School. www.mansfieldisd.org | 23
