MANSFIELD ISD RECEIVES ‘A’ IN STATE’S NEW ACCOUNTABILITY RATING SYSTEM T he Texas Education Agency’s (TEA) 2018 accountability ratings have been released. career and military readiness and compared the graduation rate to the state average. The new rating system, passed by state legislature in 2015, requires the TEA to give each public school and each district an A through F (A-F) letter grade, similar to a child’s report card. School progress shows how students perform over time and how that growth compares to similar schools. This domain is based on a school’s strengths, which can either be the number of students who made a year’s worth of academic growth in reading and math or the level of student achievement to schools with similar levels of student poverty. Mansfield ISD earned an “A” rating with a distinction in postsecondary readiness. “This accomplishment is a strong testament to the hard work and dedication of all of our educators, students and parents,” said Superintendent Dr. Jim Vaszauskas. “The Mansfield ISD community has a heart for putting students first, cultivating authentic relationships with them and making sure parents play an active role in the educational process.” The final area that was calculated for Mansfield ISD’s TEA rating is closing the gaps. The measure shows how well different populations of students in a district are performing. These groups can include racial/ethnic groups, students in special education, economically disadvantaged students and others. For each group, performance is examined in four different areas and compared against state goals. The more goals that are met in an area, the higher the score in that area. The overall rating is based on performance in three different areas: student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Student achievement shows how much students know and are able to do at the end of the school year.
