School of Excellence
C
ora Spencer Elementary School is one of only
18 schools in the state to be named a 2017-19
National PTA School of Excellence.
The award is given to parent-teacher associations
(PTAs) that have demonstrated a strong dedication to family engagement.
PTAs who receive the award have made a year-long commitment in identifying and implementing an action plan
for school improvement based on the national standards for family-school partnerships. Those standards include
welcoming all families into the school community, communicating effectively, supporting student success, speaking
up for every child and collaborating with community.
Last year, Brooks Wester Middle School and Mary Lillard Intermediate School were named National PTA Schools of
Excellence.
A total of 149 PTAs in the United States were recently awarded the National PTA School of Excellence. The
distinction lasts for two years.
